Richard (Rick) Gano has lived in the Molalla/Canby area since 1972 when he and his wife, Levonne (Mitts), moved to Oregon after Rick’s release from active duty after nine years with the air force. Levonne’s father was a local farmer and her mother was a teacher in the area. Levonne found a job teaching and Rick went back to college. After college, Rick was a teacher in the Canby school district while also continuing his air force career as a reservist. Rick retired from Canby HS in 2000 as a counselor and from the air force reserve in 2004 as a group commander with the rank of colonel. Rick swam competitively in HS and has continued swimming since the opening of the Molalla Aquatic Center. Besides serving on the pool board, Rick is a volunteer lifeguard. Swimming is a way of life with Rick. He was raised in swimming pools as his father worked all his life with oil companies in Venezuela and Indonesia. Rick’s primary goal as a board member is to help make the Molalla Aquatic Center the best in the area.
I’m a lifelong swimmer and chronic volunteer - including volunteering as a lifeguard at the Aquatic Center, and now as an appointed member of the Aquatic District board (2021).
My job on the board is to represent the interests of the district taxpayers - to make sure your money is spent responsibly and ethically, and that the programs off

Hello, I am known as MomClaire to many folks, having 11 children, 21 grandchildren, and being married to husband Steve for 42 years! I am a "Winey Women" walker, and a world traveler, so if I miss a Pool Board meeting, I probably have a name tag on somewhere and my passport in hand. I love to meet new people, far and near! Other interests
Other interests I enjoy would be, golfing, quilting, snorkeling, kayaking, wine tasting, playing guitar and singing with my husband. I do love playing just about any kind of game also! Steve and I have a Christmas Tree farm in the Maple Grove area and that is where we met back in grade school. All of our children also attended Maple Grove school and graduated from M.H.S.!! My mother, Helen Beyer, was on the original committee to get a swimming pool in Molalla, so I agreed to run for the Pool Board in her honor. Thank you for your trust in those of us on the present Board and we are working to make a great place for all ages to enjoy and gather in our town.
Thank you to Friends of the Molalla Pool and our Board Directors for helping with our table downtown! We hope all of you had a safe and fun Halloween. Despite the rain, we saw a good turn out!
Pictured is MAD Board President, Rick Gano and FOMP Board of Directors Geri Monroe & Laurie Donald. All 3 of these swimmers use the pool daily and support our mission and vision by helping at our events. THANK YOU!
We had 150 people register for our event. A special thank you to Friends of Molalla Pool for helping in the classroom and bringing snacks! A huge thank you to Willamette Valley Melons for donating the pumpkins to send home with the swimmers!
MAD holds their board meetings here at the Molalla Aquatic Center (MAC) on the fourth Tuesday of the month. These meetings are open to the public, so please stop by and see what the Board of Directors are working on. There is never any pressure to speak, but if you have something to share, please do so!
